Apply for BDGP extension now

In this video Deirbhíle Browne, Teagasc Walsh Scholarship Masters student, based in Teagasc Newcastle West, is reminding all farmers participating in the BDGP programme, that the DAFM have recently announced a one year extension. Don't forget to apply by the deadline date of Monday 20th December.

Farmers who have successfully completed all tasks in the previous seven years of the programme since it began in 2014 are eligible for this extension.

Deirbhíle outlines the details of this extension with regards to the criteria that farmers need to adhere to and how farmers can apply ahead of the upcoming deadline of Monday December 20th 2021.

All eligible farmers will have to carry out similar actions to the previous seven years. This includes recording all data in the calving and weaning surveys, updating your carbon navigator and Genotyping 60% of your reference number of animals. Farmers also need to meet the 50% requirement for 4*/5*Genotyped females on 31st October 2022. For those with a stock bull, they need at least one genotyped 4*/5* bull on the farm on June 30th 2022 or for those using AI, 80% of bulls used must be Genotyped 4*/5* for farmers to be successful and eligible for payment in 2022.

How to apply for the extension

If you wish to apply for this extension to the BDGP programme there are a number of ways to do so:

  1. In recent days you would have received a text message from the Department of Agriculture. The farmers that have not responded to this message will get a further text message in the coming days. The options to reply are either ‘DAFM Y’ (for Yes I want to extend my BDGP contract into 2022) or ‘DAFM N’ (for No I do not want to extend my BDGP contract into 2022). The participant or Agent operating on his/her behalf will have seventy-two (72) hours from the time the SMS is sent during which they must reply. A confirmation text will issue in reply if the Department has successfully received a response. Please note that by replying ‘DAFM Y’, participants are accepting the updated Terms and Conditions (‘T&Cs’) of the Scheme, a full copy of which are accessible on the Department’s Website.
  2. Log onto your individual Ag food account at agfood.ie and extend your application online.
  3. Contact your Agricultural Consultant to complete the 1 year extension application online.
