Housing Requirements for Suckler, Finisher & Weanlings

When you're housing cattle make sure you get the basics. This will maximise health & performance. There are a number of factors that have to work well together. David Argue, Teagasc Meath has more information.

There are a number of factors that have to work well together with floor lying space, feeding space, access to fresh clean water and correct ventilation being of the most importance. Having animals compete for feed space and lying space will result in a loss of performance or bullying of smaller animals within the pen. Fresh clean water is essential at all times. Risks of disease outbreaks are most common where inadequate ventilation exists.  So before housing animals this winter carry out some basic checks in the cattle unit.
