National Beef Conference 2021
Due to COVID-19, this year's National Beef Conference was delivered as two webinars, on Monday, 6th December and Wednesday, 8th December. The conference consisted of the latest beef research and the best technical advice for beef farmers. Access both of the webinars here
Monday, 6 December
Aidan Murray, Teagasc cattle specialist chaired day one of the Virtual Beef Conference. He was joined by the new director of Teagasc, Prof. Frank O’Mara, who gave a presentation on the technologies he believes can aid beef farmers to reduce the emissions of both greenhouse gases (GHG) and ammonia. This was followed by Chris Daly from the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF) who launched an exciting new tool for beef farmers who are buying calves, weanlings and store cattle.

Wednesday, 8 December
The second session of the National Beef Conference was moderated by Matt O'Keeffe, Editor of the Irish Farmers Monthly. Attendees heard from Paul Crosson, Teagasc Beef Enterprise Leader about the implications of slaughter age for beef cattle on GHG emissions. The conference concluded with an interactive forum chaired by Matt O'Keeffe featuring Kevin Hanrahan, Head of Teagasc Rural Economy Development Programme; Professor Frank O’Mara, Teagasc Director and Paul Crosson, Teagasc Beef Enterprise Leader.
