Teagasc Green Acres Virtual Farm Walk Roscommon
You will be taken on a virtual farm walk on Martin Connolly's farm where you can interact with Martin and the Teagasc Green Acres advisors on the Teagasc social media platforms. Read on for more information and details.
Martin is one of 12 participating farmers in the Teagasc Green Acres Calf to Beef Programme of 2019 who has been working closely with our programme advisors Alan Dillon, James Fitzgerald and Seán Cummins on implementing farm plans aimed at achieving a net margin of €500/ha before farm subsidies are taken into account.
On 10 September, we take you onto the farm of Martin Connolly, who farms part time just outside Castleplunket in Co. Roscommon. Martin runs a calf to bull beef system on 60ha of fragmented and slightly heavy land, where he buys in 120 spring-born, dairy-bred male calves and brings them through to slaughter at under c.22 months of age.
Join us on the day as Martin explains some of the main aspects of the system he runs, how the first year and a half of the Teagasc Green Acres programme has gone for him and the targets that he is aiming for as part of his farm plan.
Topics on the day will include:
- Growing Grass and Improving Silage Quality
- Achieving a better weight gain
- Achieving Good Herd Health
