Top tips on managing the suckler cow - pre and during calving


In the first of a two-part series, Teagasc Researcher and vet, John Donlon joins the Beef Edge podcast to give his insights and top tips in relation to managing the cow before and at calving.

Calving will take place on farms over the coming weeks and John discusses the nutrition factors to be aware of in the final stages of pregnancy, focusing on mineral and vitamin requirements and body condition score. 

John then discusses giving assistance at calving, the presentation of the calf and the essential items to have ready. Finally, he describes using the calving jack and some of the key things to be aware of.
