Malting Barley Conference returns this week

The Malting Barley Conference, as part of the Teagasc Boortmalt Joint Programme, gives farmers and the industry an insight into the latest research and results from the joint programme activities.
The conference, taking place on Friday this week, will cover a variety of subjects. Session one will consist of Richie Hackett providing an update to farmers on the use of urea-based fertilisers in malting barley production, while Eoin Lyons and Rebecca Bayley will outline the results of the Teagasc Boortmalt Joint Programme. This session will conclude with Tom Bryan and Jeff O’Connor of Boortmalt mapping the way forward for malting barley production.
Session two will take a distinctive focus on distilling and brewing. Stephen Whelan, South East Technological University, will outline the potential of Irish grains in this regard, while Lisa Ryan will detail how the Malting and Distilling Hub Research Facility can drive innovation. This hub has been established to test and pilot Irish products for their suitability in the drinks industry, which will be key in developing higher value markets. David Walsh-Kemmis will conclude this session, when outlining the story so far for the Ballykilcavan Brewery.
The event will take place in the Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, on February 24th at 10:30am.
