Celebrating World Milk Day with Teagasc Food Scientists

World Milk Day was established by the FAO in 2001 to recognise the importance of milk as a global food. It is celebrated every year on the 1st of June.
Irish dairy is famous worldwide for its grass-based production system which, as Teagasc research has recently shown is more nutritious, while also having environmental advantages over other milk production systems. At the Food Research Centre at Teagasc Moorepark, scientists are studying the composition of milk and how it changes with diet, genetics and seasons, the microbiology of milk, as well as some of our favourite dairy products like cheese and butter.
In a webinar for the Festival of Farming and Food, their knowledge was put to the test with some tough questions from primary school students across Ireland. Watch Kids’ Corner: Say Cheese here.
