Dairy market outlook for the second half of 2023

On this episode of Let's Talk Dairy, Teagasc Dairy Specialist James Dunne was joined by Liam McCabe, Bord Bia's Dairy Sector Manager, to give an insight into the dairy market outlook for the second half of 2023.

Liam first outlined that factors that led to record dairy prices and farm gate milk prices over the course of 2022. He then discussed the outlook for these markets for the remainder of the year, suggessting that green shoots in dairy commodity markets are beginning to appear.

The Bord Bia Dairy Sector Manager also commented on dairy production in the key exporting regions, while highlighting how farm gate milk prices have an impact on dairy production in these regions. This was especially evident in 2022, when regions with the capabilities to increase milk output done so on the basis of stronger farm gate prices.
