New Head appointments in Teagasc


Congratulations to the two new Heads of Department in Teagasc, on their appointments announced recently; Valerie Farrell Head of Human Resources, and Professor David Kenny, Head of Animal and Bioscience Research and to Paul Maher as Head of International Relations and Corporate Strategy in Teagasc

Valerie Farrell

Teagasc has appointed Valerie Farrell as Head of its Human Resources Department in the organisation. The appointment was approved at a recent meeting of the Teagasc Authority. and announced to coincide with International Women’s Day which celebrates the achievements of female leaders.

Valerie Farrell joined the Teagasc HR Department in 2005 as a HR Services Manager. She became a HR Operations Manager in 2008, and since 2010 has worked as HR Manager and HR Partner in the Knowledge Transfer and Operations Directorates. She commenced her career spending time with both Lombard and Ulster and Coca Cola as well as Intel Ireland. She has lead and supported a process of change in Teagasc Human resources management and across the wider organisation, having led the People Leadership and Change Strategy in Teagasc.

Professor David Kenny

Teagasc has appointed Professor David Kenny as Head of its Animal and Bioscience Research Department. The main animal bioscience facilities are located at the Teagasc research centre, Grange in County Meath from where Professor Kenny will lead the Department. The Department also comprises facilities and staff spread across two other Teagasc research centres; Teagasc Moorepark in County Cork, and Teagasc Athenry in County Galway.

Professor Kenny has worked as a Principal Research Officer in Teagasc since November 2011. Prior to that he was a Lecturer at the School of Agriculture, Food Science and Veterinary Medicine, University College Dublin. In his early career he worked for the Department of agriculture and as an adviser with Teagasc.

Paul Maher 

 

Paul Maher has been appointed as the new Head of International Relations and Corporate Strategy in Teagasc. The appointment was approved by the Teagasc Authority at its meeting on Wednesday, 3 March. He takes over from Dr Lance O’Brien who retires in April having served in Teagasc for over 40 years in a range of strategic planning and developmental roles. Over the last 10 years Paul Maher has led the strategic development and modernisation of the Teagasc advisory and life-long learning programmes in his role as Assistant Director of Knowledge Transfer. Prior to that he worked in Teagasc in organisation wide functions such as business evaluation, business planning and risk management as well as farm financial management, advisory and education roles. He also worked in Ireland and New Zealand in commercial and agri-extension roles. He is a graduate of UCD with a Bachelor and Masters in Agricultural Science and also holds a post graduate qualification in business studies from WIT.
