Teagasc Forestry Development Department - Overview

The Forestry Development Department of Teagasc provides forestry advisory, research and training services to private forest owners in Ireland. Find out about our forestry research centres, the work of our forestry advisors and the service we provide in a brief video overview here

The focus of their research is on the management of broadleaves and conifers and on tree improvement including breeding for resistance to ash dieback disease.

The forestry research centres are located at Ashtown, Athenry and Carlow. They also have research trials in forests throughout the country.

This in-house research capacity significantly benefits their advisory and training services. It allows for rapid and effective knowledge transfer.

Teagasc’s forestry advisors are located around the country. Their advice focuses on land suitability and how a forest enterprise can improve farm income.

Teagasc provides ongoing technical advice to owners on forest management.

They organise a wide range of forest walks, workshops and large national forestry events.
