Thinking Forestry? -Taking a positive step towards sustainability with a Teagasc Forestry Phone-In Clinic.

Teagasc is holding a nationwide series of phone-in advisory clinics to help landowners who are thinking about forestry and to answer any questions. Running from 23 November to 4 December, landowners can avail of a one-to-one consultation with an experienced forestry adviser by phonecall or zoom call

Announcing  the clinics, Teagasc Forestry Development Officer, Frances McHugh said that ‘Taking a positive step to improve the environment, grow a renewable fuel and quality timber while capturing carbon can start with assessing your farms suitability to incorporate a new forest, A simple phone call will cover the basics and inform a landowner how to start the process’

Nationwide series of 27 clinics

The clinics are organised by the Teagasc Forestry Development Department to help landowners make informed decisions about planting by providing objective and independent advice and information. Planting is a big decision and can raise many questions. A phone-in or zoom consultation with your local Teagasc forestry adviser will provide an opportunity to get answers to your questions and inform your decision-making about forestry as a sustainable land use option.

Issues to be discussed might include;

  • what type forest would suit your farm
  • available planting grants and premiums
  • interaction with other farm schemes, e.g. BPS, GLAS, etc.
  • forest management for existing forests and schemes available
  • planning for harvesting and timber sales

Existing forest owners are also welcome to avail of the clinics to discuss how best to manage their forests.

To avail of a clinic consultation prior booking is essential – see link below for dates, locations and phone number to book.

The phone-in clinics provide an ideal opportunity to get answers to your forestry questions – don’t miss it!
