Reviewing your 2021 grazing year

With Christmas approaching and grazing finished on most farms, now is the time to review your 2021 grazing season to identify areas for improvement in 2022. Mayo dairy farmer Alan Duggan completed his closing Average Farm Cover (AFC) and discusses how he his using the results to plan for 2022.

Alan Duggan is a re-entrant into dairying this year. He has completed his closing Average Farm Cover (AFC) which helps him to more accurately estimate the grass grown for 2021 and also over winter growth from now until February 2022.

After completing his closing AFC, Alan completed his PastureBase Scorecard to review the 2021 grazing season and identify areas for improvement in 2022. All the information to complete the scorecard is available in the “Report” section on PastureBase Ireland.

The 3 reports to look at in particular are:

  1. Annual Tonnage Report
  2. Farm Cover Report
  3. Farm Summary Report

In the below video, Alan completes his closing cover and fills out his scorecard to find some focus areas for improvement.
