Francis Peters, manager of KDI Recycling who work alongside ROC Recycling Solutions Limited, discussed recycling plastic in the nursery stock and horticulture industry, a recyclers perspective. He looked at case studies and suggested how to best manage waste and prepare it for recycling.
Jesus Maria Frias Celayeta, Academic Leader for the Environmental Sustainability and Health Institute, Technological University Dublin discussed investigations into packaging and shelf life of horticultural produce. TU Dublin and Teagasc have recently collaborated on a research project “leaf no Waste” that investigated the potential increased shelf life for some salad leaves by enriching the plants with a bio stimulant containing silicic acid.
