Sustainable energy use in horticulture - Heating with Biomass
A webinar on sustainable energy solutions in horticulture using heating with biomass took place on Monday, 14 November. Donal Gernon and Dónall Flanagan, Teagasc Horticulture Development Department were joined by Barry Caslin, Energy Specialist to discuss heating with biomass.
The ongoing shift away from fossil fuels is creating demand for heat using carbon neutral fuel sources. Along with the cheaper cost of wood chip or pellets, growers with a high heat demand in their businesses can also benefit from government subsidy support for biomass use.
Teagasc Energy specialist Barry Caslin presented an overview of boiler technology and reviewed impacts of a range of fuel types. Scenarios for horticultural producers were assessed and there was an opportunity for questions from viewers.
