A celebration of Women and Girls in Science

Today, February 11, Teagasc is celebrating International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

A United Nations (UN) initiative that promotes gender equality in STEM Fields and encourages more women and girls to pursue careers in science and technology, the theme for 2025 is: ‘Unpacking STEM Careers: Her Voice in Science’.

This day is an opportunity to promote full and equal access to, and participation in, science for women and girls. The day is implemented by UNESCO and UN-Women, of the United Nations, in collaboration with institutions and civil society partners that aim to promote women and girls in science.

Now in its 10th year, it aims to ensure gender equality in science by allowing women and girls to overcome the systemic barriers and biases in pursuing scientific careers. For this gender gap to be narrowed, stereotypes must be broken and role models to inspire girls must be promoted.
