Apply now for the Teagasc/UCD Knowledge Transfer Masters Programme

The Teagasc/UCD Knowledge Transfer Masters Programme has been developed specifically to build the competencies for careers in agricultural advisory and education services - whether in the public or private sector.

On completion of these programmes, graduates will be competent agricultural advisors, committed to on-going reflective practice and seeking out more effective ways to support farmer decision making.

Places on these funded programmes are sponsored by Teagasc and are highly competitive. Approximately 10 places are available each year. Students receive a monthly stipend for the duration of the programme and all tuition fees are funded by Teagasc.

There are two programme options available to candidates, the Masters in Agricultural Innovation Support and the Masters in Agricultural Extension.

Masters (MAgrSc) in Agricultural Innovation Support

The aim of this programme is to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to be effective in building the capacity of farmers to adopt new practices and technologies. The experience gained on this programme will position participants well for future roles in advisory services, technical consultancy and education delivery.

This Masters programme is predominantly by research (25% taught modules) and runs for 20 months (September - May). The programme includes a 14-month placement in a Teagasc advisory office or education centre. Each year, applicants are presented with a list of research topics to choose from. Successful candidates will be assigned a Teagasc and UCD-based thesis supervisor.

Masters (MAgrSc) in Agricultural Extension

This is a two-year taught Masters programme, where modules are completed to gain 90 credits (ECTs) while on professional placement for the duration of the programme. Modules are designed to support learning through assignments and projects focused on the student’s professional placement using real life problems and challenges.

On completion of this programme, students will be competent and professional agricultural advisors, committed to on-going reflective practice and seeking more effective ways to support farmer decision making. Students will be able to develop and deliver appropriate agricultural advisory and educational programmes that serve the needs of farmers and farm families. Students will adopt the skills to reflect critically on their practice as agricultural advisors and educators and be able to identify and exploit needs and opportunities for improved practice.
