New Teagasc Regional Reviews Published
Teagasc has published Reviews for each of the 12 Teagasc Advisory Regions. The reviews give an overview of the range of the agricultural and farming sectors in each region. The supporting advisory activities and education courses provided by Teagasc are also highlighted and available in the reviews.
These will be annual publications and will outline the development of farming in the different regions.
The Teagasc advisory service
The Teagasc advisory service is managed through 12 regions; Cork East; Cork West; Galway/Clare; Kerry/Limerick; Laois/Kildare/Meath/Louth/Dublin, Mayo; Roscommon/Longford; Sligo/Leitrim/Donegal; Tipperary; Waterford/Kilkenny; Westmeath/Offaly/Cavan/Monaghan; Wicklow/Carlow/Wexford.
The advice provided by Teagasc regional advisory staff is underpinned by four research programmes;
- Crops, Environment and Land Use;
- Food;
- Rural Economy and Development and
- Animal and Grassland Research and Innovation.
Teagasc Director, Professor Frank O Mara launched the 12 Regional Reviews. Speaking at the launch he said; “These regional reviews summarise the regional activities by Teagasc in 2021 and summarises the main enterprises in each region. I would like to acknowledge the support of the many stakeholders that we work closely with around the country in the different regions, through formal joint programmes and other working relationships. I would also like to thank the advisors, education officers and administrative staff working in the Teagasc regions for the professional service they deliver. “
Dr Stan Lalor, Director of Teagasc Knowledge Transfer Directorate said; “We provide integrated research, advisory and training services to the agriculture and food industry and rural communities. Through the Teagasc Advisory Programme we support the on-going development of sustainable family farms in Ireland, through efficient and effective knowledge transfer activities.
The programme currently supports almost 140,000 individual farmers with 42,000 farmers contracted to Teagasc for services annually.”
