Teagasc at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition

Thousands of students are set to descend on the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE) 2024 over the coming days.

With the event running from today, January 11, through to January 13, visitors to the Teagasc exhibit can learn about some of Teagasc’s key research activities. A range of hands-on displays will feature, covering a range of topics including: virtual reality; earth observation; forestry; biodiversity; sustainable food; spectroscopy; greenhouse gas emissions; crops; silage testing; mushrooms; economics; and engaged research.

Teagasc Education staff will also be on-hand each day to answer any of your queries on educational opportunities at Teagasc. Teagasc offers education programmes that can help you to develop your career in agriculture, horticulture, equine and forestry. Teagasc colleges are strategically located and deliver a wide range of Level 5 and Level 6 courses in these fields. The colleges also collaborate with a number of third level institutions in the delivery of Higher Level courses in agriculture and horticulture.

Like previous years, Teagasc will sponsor a special award at the event. The Teagasc prize is awarded to the project that best demonstrates a thorough understanding of the science of agricultural or food production, or the use of science to improve technologies available to agricultural or food production. Previous award winners focused on: creating a solution to anthelmintic resistance in horses; the potential of nematodes to replace pesticides; the social, economic and environmental benefits and drawbacks of growing hemp; and herbal leys – milk production for the future.
