Teagasc at the National Ploughing Championships 2024

Anticipation is building for the National Ploughing Championships, taking place in Ratheniska, Co. Laois from September 17-19, with the Teagasc exhibit centred on the theme of: ‘Better Farming, Better Environment, Better Living’.
As has become the norm, our exhibit – located at Block 2, Row 12, Stand 201 – will have a wide range of interactive displays. Additionally, over the course of the three days, our advisors and specialists will be present to answer questions on everything from pigs to potatoes, education – including full-time, part-time, distance education and apprenticeships – farm management, diversification, organic farming, health and safety, succession etc.
Along with the opportunity to engage with our specialists and advisors, our interactive exhibits will be informative and fun, such elements include: 3D virtual tours of milking parlours; virtual reality visits to forest landscapes; a hands-on welding simulator; and a food digestion exhibit. There will be several scale dioramas exhibiting farm landscapes and yards. For those attending secondary school, the science engagement desk also be worth a visit.
In the outdoor element, the environment is the main focus. Key attractions include: a major exhibit on protecting water courses on both tillage and livestock farms; an outdoor dairy exhibit using a professional quality scale model to demonstrate how farmyard design is key to protecting the environment; crops of clover and mixed-species swards demonstrating how chemical nitrogen levels can be reduced; key demonstrations in the areas of biodiversity, greenhouse gas reductions and forestry; along with live cattle and sheep demonstrations.
