Teagasc’s Vision 1 Lab wins at the Irish Laboratory Awards
The Vision 1 Laboratory, led by Professor Paul Cotter at Teagasc Moorepark, won three awards at the 2021 Irish Laboratory Awards, including Academic or Research Laboratory of the Year, Bio Science Laboratory of the Year and Food Laboratory of the Year.
The Vision 1 Laboratory
Prof. Cotter’s research group focus on the microbiology of food and the food chain, food grade antimicrobials to control spoilage and pathogenic bacteria, next generation sequencing technologies, and the gut microbiome and its modulation by diet, live biotherapeutics/probiotics and exercise. They also manage the DNA Sequencing Facility at Teagasc Moorepark.
Current Food Projects
Current projects and affiliations include the APC Microbiome Ireland and VistaMilk SFI Research Centres, Food for Health Ireland, the Irish Coronavirus Sequencing Consortium and MASTER, an EU Horizon 2020 Innovation Action. Prof. Cotter is Head of the Food Biosciences Department at Teagasc, a Principal Investigator in APC Microbiome Ireland and VistaMilk and an adjunct professor and lecturer in University College Cork and Munster Technological University, respectively.
The Irish Laboratory Awards recognise excellence and achievement in the laboratory environment, covering management, innovation, collaboration, personnel development and laboratory equipment supply. The 2021 award ceremony was held as a virtual event on the 29th April.
