DAFM Pig Exceptional Payment Scheme

The Minister for Agriculture, Food & the Marine, Charlie McConalogue T.D., announced the opening of applications for the Pig Exceptional Payment Scheme (PEPS), a €7 million exchequer funded scheme to support commercial pig farmers in Ireland. It aims to give temporary financial aid to pig farmers
Ciaran Carroll, Head of Pigs Knowledge Transfer with Teagasc Pig Development Department, has the latest information on the Pig Exceptional Payment Scheme (PEPS) announced on Monday 7th March 2022.
How Do I Qualify?
To qualify for PEPS you must:
- Be aged eighteen years or over on date of submission of the application for participation.
- Be the holder of an active herd number with Herd Owner Status. Herd Keeper is not acceptable.
- Must have produced 200 or more animals in the period 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2021 inclusive. These pigs must have been sent to a slaughtering establishment, exported or sold commercially from a breeding herd in the required period of 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2021 inclusive .
- Must have returned a completed National Pig Census 2021 to the Pig ID section (Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Backweston, Young's Cross, Celbridge, Co. Kildare. W23 X3PH or email: pigid@agriculture.gov.ie)
Rates of Payment
A one-off payment, there will be twelve rates of payment under the scheme, based on the number of pigs sold in 2021. For example, a farm that sold 200-300 pigs can claim €3,000 whereas a farm that sold more than 1,300 pigs can claim the maximum payment of €20,000.
How Do I Apply?
Please send completed applications to PigScheme@agriculture.gov.ie Applications are open from 7th March 2022 and will close on 20th March 2022. No late applications will be accepted.
Each undertaking, as defined in the Terms and Conditions, will be eligible for only one payment as described above, irrespective of the number of herds owned. Therefore, it is the responsibility of each undertaking to submit only one application.
