Lunchtime Webinar Series to focus on key pig husbandry topics

Lunchtime Webinar Series to focus on key pig husbandry topics

The Pig Development Department is launching a new continuous learning ‘lunchtime webinar series’ for farm staff, targeting a programme of key husbandry topics over the coming year.

The webinars will be short, 60-80 minutes, and each will be targeted on a particular applied topic. The objective of this outreach initiative is to facilitate continuous staff learning & development, without the necessity to leave the farm setting. Further details on this program will be circulated in the coming weeks.

Certified workshops

In addition to the ‘lunchtime webinar series’ the PDD will also be running two specific certified workshops on “Animal Welfare on commercial pig farms” and “Pig farm Health & Safety” in February/March.

Animal Welfare on commercial pig farms

The Certified workshop on “Animal Welfare on commercial pig farms” gives a thorough overview of pig welfare regulations, considerations and best practice and has been developed in collaboration with the Pig Development Department advisory, research and education team. This workshop fulfils the welfare training requirement of the Bord Bia Pig Quality Assurance Scheme, whereby each farm is required to have at least one member of staff pig welfare certified.

Pig farm Health & Safety

The certified workshop in “Pig farm Health & Safety” will be tailored specifically towards pig farms whilst also fulfilling the farm safety training course requirement for TAMS 3. It will address the main workplace risks and suggested mitigation actions to keep pig farm personnel safe throughout the year.

If you wish to register for either workshop please contact Niamh Allen at 025 42457 or niamh.allen@teagasc.ie to secure your space.
