Moorepark Pig Farm Update June 2023

In this video, we meet Aisling Holmes, research technician at the Teagasc Pig Research Facility (TPRF).

Aisling discusses some of the main performance figures in the TPRF for 2022, and highlights some of the areas they are concentrating on and husbandry changes they have made in the unit in 2023.

Included is an update on the unit's gilts, that are now being bred on site, the effect that’s had on the unit's parity profile and the knock on consequences of that. Aisling also discusses the increase in both birth weights and weaning weights, as well as a change in transfer age from weaners to fatteners.
