Tackling the fluke challenge this winter
Veterinarian Shane McGettrick, who is Laboratory Manager at the DAFM Regional Veterinary Laboratory in Co. Sligo is on this week’s OviCast to talk about the fluke challenge this winter.
Shane starts by discussing what fluke-related issues they are seeing in the lab at this point in the season and he comments on DAFM’s Fluke Forecast, which suggests that this may be more of a challenging season for fluke.
Joining Teagasc Sheep Specialist Ciaran Lynch on the podcast, Shane also highlights the importance of choosing the correct active ingredient for the treatment of liver fluke, potential flukicide resistance, and why it’s important to work with your vet to put a control programme in place on farm. They finish up discussing rumen fluke and the risk it may pose on certain farms.
