Peadar Lawlor - Biography
Dr. Peadar Lawlor is a Principal Research Officer at Teagasc, Moorepark with 26+ years of applied research and advisory experience in pig production, management and nutrition. His research interests are broad and include alternative feed ingredients, sow nutrition to increase the number of viable pigs born, reducing pre-weaning mortality, feed efficiency, Salmonella control, genetically modified feed ingredients and liquid feeding. Nevertheless, he is most passionate about optimising nutrition and management for the newly weaned pig, as he believes that improving feed intake and growth at this time has huge scope to benefit lifetime growth and feed efficiency in the pig and hence on-farm profitability. He completed his Masters and PhD in this area and has worked on many research projects on nutrition of the weaned pig since then. Commencing October 2020, he will lead two externally funded (DAFM & EU) research projects aimed at easing the transition of pigs at weaning. He is author of 100+ peer reviewed papers/book chapter/reviews and is currently Adjunct Lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, NUI Galway. Among other positions held, he has been a member of the EFSA FEEDAP panel, the chemical safety sub-committee of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland and Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Animal Science.
