Sean O'Donnell - Mixed Soils Grassland Farmer of the Year 2021

Sean O'Donnell and his family farm just outside Ballina, Co. Mayo milking 215 crossbred cows across two milking platforms. The O'Donnell’s were the “Mixed Soils” category winners of the 2021 Grassland Farmer of the Year Competition.

Sean’s focus has always been centred on growing high levels of quality grass and having excellent grazing infrastructure in place to make use of this grass, especially at the shoulders of the year.
Sean completed over 40 grass walks in 2021 on PastureBase Ireland, with 13T of grass grown across both platforms & 8.8 events per paddock. He is incorporating clover on farm through both over sowing and reseeding in 2022. His cows produced 484 Kg Milk Solids per cow in 2021 from 800 Kg meal in 2021.
