Winter Milk Week - Friday

Event Time 11:30am
Venue Farm of David Mc Coy, Drummummary, Smithboro, Co Monaghan. Eircode: H18 KF96

Winter milk producers constitute a vital sub-sector within a highly seasonal Irish dairy industry. Year-on-year these farms meet demand for a consistent daily supply of quality fresh milk to the domestic market, as well as providing winter volumes for manufacture of specific products.

As part of the Teagasc Winter Milk Programme a number of on farm events are being organised around the country.  Teagasc Winter Milk Week will see five farm walks taking place each day from Monday, 21st – Friday, 25th November in a different location each day.

Join us on Friday, 25th November at 11.30am for a Winter Milk Farm Walk on the farm of David Mc Coy, Drummummary, Smithboro, Co Monaghan, H18 KF96

Topics to be discussed on the day:

  • The impact of cost inflation on winter milk farms
  • Calving pattern & fertility effects on herd performance
  • Adding value to the milk cheque through improved herd genetics
  • Efficiently feeding the herd this winter
