New Members Appointed to Teagasc Authority
Mr Eddie Downey and Mr Tom Collins have been appointed to the Teagasc Authority by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith TD. Both appointments are effective from 27 January.
Eddie Downey farms at Monknewtown, Slane, Co. Meath and is Deputy President of the IFA. His appointment will be for the remainder of his predecessor’s term of five years, which runs until 23 September 2012. He replaces Derek Deane on the Authority.
Tom Collins from Knockowen Road, Tullamore, Co. Offaly is appointed for a term of five years, until the 26 January 2015. Tom is a retired Teagasc staff member and brings a wealth of experience from his long service in a variety of roles in advisory and as Director of Management and Corporate Affairs.
At today’s Authority meeting, Teagasc Chairman, Dr Noel Cawley welcomed Eddie Downey and Tom Collins to the board saying: “I am looking forward to working closely with both Eddie and Tom over the coming years. Their individual experience and knowledge of agriculture, farming and the agri-food industry will be of enormous benefit to the Authority as it reaches its decisions and carries out its business in the coming years.“
At the Authority meeting the Chairman acknowledged the valuable contributions of both Derek Deane and Jerry Henchy to Teagasc during their respective terms on the board and thanked them for their commitment and dedication to the organisation.
