JFC Innovation Awards for Rural Business
The JFC Innovation awards for Rural Business are open for rural entrepreneurs to compete for awards from a prize fund of up to €40,000. The JFC innovation awards are sponsored by JFC and organised jointly by Teagasc, The Irish Farmers Journal, and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Northern Ireland (DARD). They are a good example of collaboration between the private and public sectors to encourage, promote, and recognise enterprise in rural areas.
John Concannon, Managing Director of the JFC company said; “The reason JFC sponsor the awards is to encourage and empower rural people to be innovative in their existing endeavours and to consider setting up a new business that is sustainable, that will create employment and boost the local economy. “
Submitting an application in itself for the JFC Innovation Awards is beneficial, as it helps to clarify and think through a new business idea. As part of the competition, the business idea must be pitched to the judging panel, which in itself helps to develop confidence, and is good training for when you might have to make similar pitches for funding. Valuable feed back from the judging panel is very useful as their aim is to be supportive and constructive.
The award winning businesses benefit from the prize fund, the publicity, and the mentoring and networking which contribute to build and grow a successful rural business.
The JFC Innovation Awards for Rural Business application forms are available from Teagasc offices, Irish Farmers Journal and DARD, or from the organisation’s websites:
