Teagasc Complete Successful Single Farm Payment Scheme
Teagasc completed 31,417 online applications for the Single Payment Scheme on behalf of farmer clients this year. This is almost 80% of the 40,000 SPS applications made through Teagasc offices. Online applications processed by Teagasc are up by 30% from the 24,000 completed in 2010 and they represent a high proportion of the 54,000 online applications received by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) this year.
Commenting on the Teagasc SPS campaign Dr Tom Kelly, Head of Knowledge Transfer, Teagasc said: “Online applications have now become the accepted way of working efficiently with huge benefits to DAFM and to clients in terms of processing applications.”
Dr Kelly complemented staff in the Teagasc advisory service on the delivery and support for the SPS application campaign this year. He said: “Despite the shorter time available and the addition of a late Agri Environmental Options Scheme (AEOS), all clients were dealt with in an efficient and professional way. Capacity to assist clients with AEOS applications was reduced, however more than 1,000 client plans were prepared. With the 30% reduction in the number of advisers working in Teagasc, great credit is due to all staff on delivering this SPS campaign on time for all clients.”
Dr Kelly also said that he was particularly pleased that the technical and business support programme for farmers was maintained during this busy period, with advisers facilitating their discussion groups and holding farm walks.
