Teagasc Sports Turf Seminar
Teagasc will be hosting a Sports Turf Seminar on Thursday, 7 July at Kildalton College, Piltown, Co Kilkenny. This is the fourth such seminar held at the college in recent years and follows a very successful event in 2008.
The seminar is organised specifically for people who have to look after sports pitches and is in response to a high level of interest from sports clubs, county councils, schools and colleges. Speaking in advance of the seminar, Teagasc lecturer Grainne McMahon said: ”The sports turf industry has undergone many changes in the past few years and it is important that people keep abreast of new developments and learn to adapt and manage the demands which are now being placed on so many sports turf surfaces.”
This seminar will provide the most up to date information to those who manage sports turf. The maintenance of pitches is a difficult task and with the increased demand for all year round use, together with a wider range of field sports, it is now more difficult to maintain a high quality playing surface.
The morning seminar will host a range of speakers on topics including aeration, de-compaction, nutrition and fertilizers to factors affecting turfgrass quality and maintaining a pitch on a budget. In the afternoon, there will be several trade stands in attendance, providing a unique opportunity to interact with commercial companies and avail of their advice, make contacts and enquire about products and services on offer.
