Teagasc Publish New Beef Manual for Farmers
The new Teagasc Beef Manual was launched today, Wednesday 26 September, by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney TD at the National Ploughing Championship. The Teagasc Beef Manual is the second in a series of manuals published by Teagasc outlining the latest and most up to-date technologies and best practices for farmers to follow. It follows on from the successful Teagasc Dairy Manual that was published in 2011 and is being used on thousands of dairy farms already.
Teagasc Director, Professor Gerry Boyle said: “The Teagasc Beef Manual is one of the key actions aimed at increasing technology uptake on beef farms as part of the industry plan to increase production to meet the growth targets set in the Food Harvest 2020 report for the beef sector.”
The manual covers all the key areas of beef production required to run a successful, sustainable, and profitable beef farming enterprise. It focuses on improving beef breeding, better grassland management, improved animal health and financial management.
Edited by Mark Moore, Publications Manager with Teagasc, the Teagasc Beef Manual provides the latest research updates, combined with advice on best practice being used on farms. With contributions from Teagasc experts working in the advisory, education and research units in Teagasc, the Beef Manual is the most comprehensive publication available for drystock farmers to assist them with the day to day management of their unit.
