A nationwide series of 39 Forestry Advisory Clinics for people who are considering forestry, or who are existing forest owners has been organised by Teagasc’s Forestry Development Department. These one-to-one consultations begin next Monday, 20 January and continue at locations around the country until 31January.
Nuala Ni Fhlatharta, Head of Teagasc’s Forestry Development Department said: “Landowners consider forestry for many reasons such as supplementing farm income, farm restructuring or developing a retirement fund. Any new farm enterprise can present many questions. The 2014 Teagasc Forestry Clinics are an ideal opportunity to flesh out the details as to how forestry might work for you. If you are already a forest owner you are welcome to come along to discuss forest management issues.”
She advised landowners to book their appointment as soon as possible, as places fill up very quickly. “We organised similar clinics last year. More than double the anticipated number of landowners availed of a one-to-one consultation with a Teagasc Forestry Adviser. People found them really useful to help in decision making and getting objective information at a whole farm level.”
A one-to-one forestry appointment with a Teagasc Forestry Development Officer will provide private landowners with free, independent and objective advice and can help you answer the following questions:
- How a forest enterprise can improve farm and household income
- Timber and non-timber benefits
- Applying for the higher “farmer” rate of premium
- The effect of planting on other farm schemes
- How to get the job done right first time
