Teagasc Researchers Feature on The Science Squad on RTÉ One

Teagasc research will feature in three episodes in the upcoming series of The Science Squad on RTÉ One television. In the first episode on this bank holiday Monday, October 27 at 8.30pm, Dr Riona Sayers from Teagasc will discuss liver fluke and the damage it can cause on Irish farms with presenter Kathriona Devereux.

In episode one of The Science Squad Teagasc’s Dr Riona Sayers explains to presenter Kathriona Devereux what liver fluke is and the damage it can do.

Liver fluke is an extremely important disease of Irish livestock and one that requires constant vigilance given our climatic conditions. Given its economic impact in all livestock and often fatal outcomes in sheep, it is essential that awareness of this parasite remains high amongst our farming communities,” says Riona.

The novel techniques that Teagasc (in conjunction with partners in UCD, Tyndall National Institute, ICBF, Zoetis and Enfer) will apply to fluke control as part of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s ‘Flukeless’ project will serve to greatly improve our knowledge of liver fluke control strategies and ultimately lead to improved health for Irish livestock.
