Upcoming Dairy Open Day in Teagasc Moorepark
Thousands of farmers are expected to visit Teagasc Moorepark, Fermoy, County Cork on Wednesday, 1 July for the flagship outdoor national dairy event of the year. ‘Sustainable Expansion’ is the theme of this year’s open day which opens at 10.00 in the morning with all farmers welcome to attend. This Open Day is sponsored by FBD.
A series of technical villages will provide the opportunity for all attending to see and learn about the key dairying technologies that will help farmers to increase the profitability of the family farm business. As milk price continues to fluctuate from year to year, the financial and business planning required to address this volatility will be addressed as part of the Teagasc Get Farm Financially Fit campaign.
Milk production is already up this year compared to last year as producers respond to the new post quota era. The latest Teagasc research and advice from specialists and advisers will be available for those thinking of developing and expanding their business further in the years ahead.
A network of themed villages will be there on the day for farmers to visit, which include information on Breeding, Grassland, Milk Quality, New Entrants, and Environmental sustainability. The village for New Entrants to Dairying will be of particular interest for those considering a career in dairy farming.
A forum on ‘Developing a Successful Career in Dairying’ will take place in the afternoon. The forum will include a panel with a range of experience: a student participating in the Professional Diploma in Dairy Farm Management, young share farmers, a new entrant to dairying and farm managers/owners with a range of experience in farm management. Additionally, with the support of Ulster Bank, a new publication called “Stepping Stones to a career in Dairy Farming” will be published and available on the day.
