Global Food Summit Commences in Dublin
The Inaugural IUFoST Global Food Summit - Global Strategies for Sustainability of Future Food Systems, It is taking place in conjunction with the 18th IUFoST World Congress of Food Science and Technology. in the RDS, Dublin.

The Inaugural IUFoST Global Food Summit - Global Strategies for Sustainability of Future Food Systems, commenced in the RDS, Dublin today, Sunday, 21 August. It is taking place in conjunction with the 18th IUFoST World Congress of Food Science and Technology.
Speaking in Dublin today, Rickey Yada, IUFoST President said: “This is a landmark gathering of national and international scientific bodies, government advisors charged with providing food-related strategy, and global leaders in the Agri-food industry. They are meeting to address the challenges facing the global community, including sustainable food production, improving nutritional requirements, diet-related disease, and reducing food waste.”
The keynote address at the Global Food Summit was delivered by Phil Hogan, the EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development. He stressed the importance of scientific research and innovation in underpinning sustainable food production for the future and went on to outline some of the key elements of the EU’s agriculture and food research agenda. He pointed to the need for a global approach to tackling the challenges facing agriculture and highlighted the importance of international scientific gatherings, such as the IUFoST Congress in Dublin, for improving global networks and co-operation.

He said: “With over 500 different organisations represented from over 65 countries, this truly embodies an unparalleled global collaboration of the brightest minds in food science, research and innovation. We have assembled a congress with over 1,500 accepted abstracts, all of which were critically-peer-reviewed and of a very high standard. We have over 80 sessions planned, in which more than 250 scientific, industry and policy experts will be sharing new findings, practical experiences and lessons learned in their respective fields. “
