Winner of ‘Enjoying Our Forests’ Category of Teagasc Forest Photo Competition Announced
The Teagasc Forestry Development Department today announced the winner of the fourth and final category of its forest photo competition ‘Celebrating Our Forests’
On this occasion, the worthy winner is Ms. Deirdre Casolani who resides in Fermoy, Co. Cork. Deirdre’s winning photo, entitled ‘Love is…sharing a bluebell’, is a captivating image of her friend’s children having fun in Upper Glenabo Wood, Fermoy. Deirdre, a member of her local camera club, ‘came across the bluebells in a local forest during the lockdown’ which provided an ideal setting to capture the image.
Deirdre’s winning photo was selected from over 200 further diverse images, showing forests as places of fun and enjoyment, recently submitted to the Teagasc forest photo competition. The competition, commenced on September 2 and focused on four separate forestry themes, each running over a fortnightly period. As winner of the fourth category, ‘Enjoying Our Forests’, Deirdre will receive a voucher valued at €250 and her image goes forward to the grand final on December 8. On that date, Deirdre will be in contention, along with the three previous category winners, to collect further vouchers worth €750, bringing the overall winner’s prize to a value of €1000.
Congratulating Deirdre as the final category winner, Teagasc Forestry Development Officer Steven Meyen said: ‘This photo brings a smile to your face – exactly what this category is about. The photo really brings out a sense of fun and enjoyment in a wonderful and colourful forest setting. It also provides a terrific example of the great recreational resource provided by our forests, promoting health and wellbeing for people of all ages. The judging panel again had a challenging task in selecting a winner from the great range of quality images submitted.’ Deirdre’s winning photo, along with a selection of highly commended photo entries for ‘Enjoying Our Forests’, can now be viewed on the forestry section of the Teagasc website at www.teagasc.ie/forestphotos.
The grand final of the competition and announcement of the overall competition winner takes place on December 8. Teagasc sincerely thanks the huge number of participants who have submitted photos to this competition over the past eight weeks and also wishes the four category winners well in the final.
