Clonakilty College Virtual Open Day

Clonakilty College Virtual Open Day took place on Wednesday, 17 June.
This virtual event allowed potential students to hear from college staff and gain an insight into the courses on offer in the college. Principal Keith Kennedy was joined by Karen O Connell, Assistant Principal; College teachers James Daunt and Ciara O'Donovan who were on hand showing videos, discussing courses and were able to answer any questions which potential students had on the courses and the application process.
A recent graduate of the Advanced Certificate in Dairying Course, James O'Brien gives an overview of his experience of studying in the college and also outlines what he learnt and how it has helped him make his home farm more efficient by adapting some of the practices he learnt in the course. James Daunt gives an overview of the dairy enterprise at Clonakilty College and also gives an overview of some of the ongoing research projects taking place. Ciara O'Donovan outlines the different systems in place in the beef enterprise and gives an overview of the herd. David Hallissey gives an overview of the sheep enterprise and outlines why they operate a mixed grazing system and the breeds of ewes on the farms.
The panel also discussed the progression options for students and the advantages of studying agriculture in Clonakilty.
