02 June 2020
Type Media Article

There is some rain forecast for later this week, farms that might be short of grass will have to wait for this to have an impact and for grass growth to improve. Sheep specialist Michael Gottstein has some advice for sheep farmers

If you need to reduce grass demand on your farm the main actions to take are:

  1. Wean ewes (lambed 10 weeks up)
  2. Sell off cull ewes
  3. Draft lambs - > 38kg liveweight - 17.5 kg carcass weight
  4. Set up a finishing group (34 kg liveweight plus) supplement with concentrate (0.5kg/hd/day)
