The 2021 National Tillage Conference took place virtually, split over two days, on Wednesday, 3rd February and Wednesday, 17th February.
Session One - Wednesday, 3 February | 11.30am
On February 3rd, part one of the 2021 National Tillage Conference took place as an interactive webinar where researchers and PhD students provided insights into current research on:
- Designing management practices to enhance both yield and grain milling quality of Winter and Spring Oats
Sara Tudor, Teagasc Walsh Scholar, Aberystwyth University, Wales - Growing field beans in Ireland: agronomic practices and current issues
Sheila Alves, Teagasc, Oak Park - The potential of rye in Ireland
Richie Hackett, Teagasc, Oak Park - Establishing a BYDV and aphid-monitoring network to support IPM strategies in Ireland
Maximilian Schughart, Teagasc Walsh Scholar, University College Dublin - Producing high value plant breeding material suited to Irish tillage systems

Session Two - Wednesday, 17 February | 11.30am
On February 17th, part two of the 2021 National Tillage Conference took place as an interactive webinar. Researchers and PhD students provided insights into more immediate issues, detailing the continuous need for integrated pest management approaches to mitigate against the problem of grassweeds and STB of winter wheat. The panellists also discussed the relevance of recent results from the on-going Teagasc systems trials, which have been examining the impact of different cultivation practises.
