The key messages in this week’s newsletter are:
- The Grassland Farmer of the Year 2020 competition awards ceremony took place earlier today on Zoom, live from Moorepark. Congratulations to Caroline Walsh from Ballinascarthy, Co. Cork who was the Overall Winner of the Grassland Farmer of the Year for 2020. Congratulations to all the Category Award Winners and thank you to all farmers who put themselves forward for the competition in 2020.
The category winners were-:
- Grassland Merit Award, Sustainable Grassland – JP Hammersley, Lattin, Co. Tipperary
- Grassland Merit Award, Most Improved Grassland – David Brady, Stradone, Co. Cavan
- Grassland Merit Award, Most Improved Grassland – Noel Hurley, Kildorrery, Co. Cork
- Suckler Beef Production Category– Thomas Hogan, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary
- Beef Production (non-suckling) Category– Pat Collins, Castlemartyr, Co. Cork
- Dairy Category – Caroline Walsh, Ballinascarthy, Co. Cork
- Sheep Category – Peter McGuinness, Trim, Co. Meath
- Sustainable Farming Category – John Galvin, Dunmanway, Co. Cork
- Heavy Soils/Disadvantaged Land Category – Sean Barry, Pallasgreen, Co. Limerick
- Young Farmer Category – David O’Leary, Castleisland, Co. Kerry
