Farm Safely with Electricity
Be aware of the potential electrical hazards around your farm. Electricity is a powerful and versatile source of energy but it can be dangerous.
Electricity
If there are domestic electrical fittings on the farm, inspections should take place on a continuous basis to make sure they are safe. Farm electricity must be up graded to Industrial Standards when up grading is being carried out.
All circuits should be protected by a main fuse. Correct rating fuses should be used when replacements are
made.
The use of extension leads should be kept to a minimum.
Always fully extend leads to prevent them from over heating. This also extends their life.
Electric fences should not run parallel under overhead power lines. They should be kept at a distance of at least 20 ft. or 6 meters.
Ensure operators of machinery including contractors are made aware of the presence of low power lines in yards and fields and strictly adhere to the safe clearances specified by ESB Networks.
Care should be taken when moving high loads. No one should travel on loads.
