Common Stressors

Farming is a profession  and a business that comes with unique challenges, including heightened risks of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and stress. These challenges are often made worse by financial uncertainties, unpredictable weather, social isolation, and the overall complexities of farming life.

common stressors; paper work, relationship conflict, animal health, regulatory compliance, financial difficulties, health issues, feeling isolated, heavy workload

Signs of Stress

It is well known that farmers waste no time in calling a Vet for a sick animal, get the mechanic in to repair machinery on the  understanding that such care and attention to detail is vital to the economic value of the farm. Similarly, prioritising personal well-being is essential for the health of the farmer and their family, not to mind their economic value to their family and farm.

signs of stress; sleep difficulties, high blood pressure, low energy, negative attitude and thoughts, loss of interest and enjoyment, withdrawal from friends and family, irritability and mood swings, increased drinking, smoking or drug use
