Equine ID Checks Before Export Certification Application (DAFM)
DAFM Trader Notice regarding checks on equines for export (February 2025)
The main changes are:
- A requirement on exporters to check the UK Chip Checker website for equines originating from establishments in Northern Ireland. See section 3.4 of the document linked below.
- A requirement for exporters to complete a DAFM notification form to include snap shots of the chip checker database, attaching this to the email requesting certification and to attach it to the Traces certificate. The purpose of this is to alert other Authorities of each equine’s fit for human consumption status. Several exporters are already using this document. See section 3.5, 3.6., 10 of the document linked below.
- Confirming the mandatory three working day minimum notice and submission of passports for equines for export for slaughter see 3.8 and the provision of out of hours service subject to availability see 3.9 in the document linked below.
- Irish equines registered with a foreign PIO must be lodged to the AIM database, see section 5.3 of the document linked below.

The above changes come into effect on Monday the 10th of February, 2025.
