Movement of equines between Ireland and the UK (including as a landbridge) since Brexit - 2 February 2021
On this episode of Let's Talk Equine, Wendy Conlon, Teagasc Equine Specialist was joined by Catherine Lawler, Superintending Veterinary Officer, Animal Health Division, DAFM; Celine O’ Neill, Principal Officer, Brexit Policy and Customs Legislation Branch, Customs Division, Revenue; and Humphrey O’ Sullivan, Assistant Principal Officer, VAT Interpretation Branch, Indirect Taxes Policy & Legislation Division, Revenue to discuss the movement of equines between Ireland and the UK, including using the UK as a landbridge.
Panellists communicated the processes required relating to health certs, transport authorisation, and customs with reference also to VAT implications since Brexit.

On this episode of Let's Talk Equine, Wendy Conlon, Teagasc Equine Specialist was joined by Andrew Hughes of Ennisnag Stud, Damien Griffen of Lissyegan Stables and Cameron Hanley, international showjumper to discuss which youngsters merit further investment. The discussion centred on the qualities of importance when deciding on which youngsters to invest in for breeding or sport. Also discussed was the production of young horses and the importance of collaboration and good communication between breeders and riders.

On this episode of Let's Talk Equine, Wendy Conlon, Teagasc Equine Specialist was joined by Kate Jarvey, Monymusk Stud/ Attington Sport Horses and Austin O’Connor, Attington Sport Horses to discuss breeding eventers, mares are ‘gold’. Kate shared her insights on choice of mares and stallions to produce event horses while Austin contributed his perspective as an international rider on his preferences and requirements for horses to compete at 4 and 5* level of the sport.

On this episode of Let's Talk Equine, Wendy Conlon, Teagasc Equine Specialist was joined by Dr. Noel Cawley, Newpark Lodge Stud and Greg Broderick, Ballypatrick Stables to reflect on their many competition and breeding successes of 2021 providing their analysis of the horses, their families, mothers and stallion choices and introducing some of the younger ones waiting in the wings at home. Lots of positive messages provided for other breeders, particularly in the closing minutes.
