Optimising digital marketing - 1 February 2022

On this episode of Let's Talk Equine, Wendy Conlon, Teagasc Equine Specialist was joined by Emma McCabe, Epic Management to discuss optimising digital marketing. Wendy and Emma discussed an overview of the use of various digital marketing tools including website, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok and the relevance of branding and knowing your ‘mission’ irrespective of size of the enterprise.

Practical advice on managing neonatal/ young foals - 1 March 2022

On this episode of Let's Talk Equine, Wendy Conlon, Teagasc Equine Specialist was joined by vets Jennie Henderson, Ballylinch Stud and Carmel Welsh, Kilcash Equine Clinic to discuss practical management of neonatal / young foals. Jennie and Carmel presented advice on the key management practices that can help prevent issues arising along with an overview of some of the more typical issues that can arise and the reciprocal actions needed.

Assisted reproductive technologies: When, How and Why? - 5 April 2022

On this episode of Let's Talk Equine, Wendy Conlon, Teagasc Equine Specialist was joined by Dr Niamh Lewis, Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Equine Reproduction and Fertility at the School of Veterinary Medicine UCD to discuss the when, how and why of assisted reproductive technologies.

Niamh gave an introductory recap of equine reproductive physiology for context, explained reasons for producing horses in vitro, discussed managing expectations with problem mares/ infertility and succinctly explained I.C.S.I. (intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection).

Managing broodmares to optimise fertility - 3 May 2022

On this episode of Let's Talk Equine, Wendy Conlon, Teagasc Equine Specialist was joined by Dr. Susan Salter BSc Hons BVM&S MRCVS, SES Equine Veterinary Services and Dr. Aoife Osborne, Osborne Farm (K&A Sport Horse Ltd. to discuss optimising mare fertility.

Sue and Aoife emphasised the importance of the breeder and vet working closely together and communicating effectively while taking a step by step approach to diagnostics, with early acknowledgement of expectations and budget. A variety of examples/scenarios were discussed to reflect typical situations which both encounter, and the approach taken with each.

The reality of trading horses for a living - 4 October 2022

On this episode of Let's Talk Equine, Wendy Conlon, Teagasc Equine Specialist was joined by Barry O’Connor International Agent and Coach to discuss the reality of trading horses for a living.

Barry shared his personal perspectives on the markets for show jumpers. The production of young horses was discussed relative to the markers they should ideally achieve through the different age classes. The challenges around valuation for various markets were discussed with strong recommendation for breeders/ producers to have their homework done and know the costs involved.

The story of CSF James Kann Cruz from breeder to international success - 8 November 2022

Wendy Conlon, Teagasc Equine Specialist was joined by Shane Connolly of Connolly Stud Farm, Francis Connors (Ballylawn Stud), and Shane Sweetnam (Sweet Oak Farm) on Tuesday, as part of the Let's Talk Equine Webinar Series. The panel discussed CSF James Kann Cruz (ISH), one of the best nine year old showjumpers in the world this year.

Due to technical issues with the initial recording replacement interviews were completed to produce an extended recording of individual interviews with each of the gentlemen to enjoy over the Christmas break. The discussion takes us from insight into the dam and her family right through CSF James Kann Cruz’s young horse production phases; his step up to national grand prix classes and subsequent international success.

Optimising foal survival, and minimising vet bills! - 6 December 2022

On this episode of Let's Talk Equine, Wendy Conlon, Teagasc Equine Specialist was joined by vet Siobhán McAuliffe, an expert in her field and also highly respected among her own veterinary community, to discuss optimising foal health and minimising veterinary bills.

The discussion focused on recognising sick foals early as early intervention generally minimises vet bills and optimises prognosis. Also discusses was how to relay history, what an owner should be prepared to relay to the vet when making that call.
