Broiler Conference 2024
This Conference took place on Monday, 14th October in the Hillgrove Hotel & Spa, Co. Monaghan and on Wednesday, 16th October in the Longcourt House Hotel, Co. Limerick.
These events will discuss the importance of feed for chick start, water and ventilation. The area of gut health will receive attention around Coccidiosis and Campylobacter. The industry has had recent incidences of mycotoxins, which will also be discussed. As we strive for further sustainability, the events will look at the option of Heat Exchangers for broilers and broiler breeders.

Broiler NET – The Roadshow
This event, which took place on presented on Tuesday, 18 June on Monaghan and Wednesday, 19 June in Cork, presented on the EU project known as Broiler NET. Broiler NET has established 13 discussion groups across Europe with key broiler industry stakeholders working together to address issues on three themes:
- environmental sustainability
- animal welfare
- animal health management
Rebecca Tierney, Teagasc Poultry Advisor presented the finding to date and give the outline for the remaining project and how you, as a producer, can be involved.
John Shiels, MSD presented on one of the key issues identified under animal health management, chick quality. Chick quality is a critical determinant of the success and sustainability of poultry production systems. This will focus on measures (before arrival of the chicks to the farm and during the first week of life) to reduce mortality mainly due to infectious problems during this first days of the rearing period.
The IFAC team members of Ciaran McCabe and Brian Denn discussed recent changes to the interpretation to the VAT rules for farmers. This will include VAT back from refurbishments and investments on farm.
Niall Keenan, Niall Keenan & Associates will spoke on TAMS.
Layer Conference
Teagasc hosted a Layer Conference on Thursday, 25 April in the Errigal Country House Hotel, Cavan Road, Errigal, Cootehill, Co. Cavan.
There were speakers on the evening who covered a range of topics such as agroforestry for poultry, worming protocols for layer flocks, considerations for designing a vaccination programme, and sustainability for layer flocks.

Poultry Biosecurity & Budget Update Webinar

As we approach Avian Influenza season it is crucial that all poultry producers ensure their biosecurity is up to standard. Rebecca Tierney, Teagasc Poultry Advisor hosted a webinar, which took place on Wednesday, 25 October and focused on poultry biosecurity and budget update.
- Carla Gomes, Animal Health Ireland spoke about the FREE biosecurity assessments offered by Animal Health Ireland (AHI).
- Tara Battersby, Agrihealth provided information on practical biosecurity measures to aid in reducing the risk of a disease entering your unit.
- Rebecca Tierney spoke to a farmer whose farm was affected by AI.
- Kevin Connolly, Teagasc provided an update from the recent budget on the changes for poultry producers.

Broiler Conference 2023
A Broiler Conference took place on Tuesday, 26th September in the Hillgrove Hotel & Spa, Co. Monaghan and on Thursday, 28th September in the Longcourt House Hotel, Co. Limerick.
This year's conference highlighted the importance of biosecurity for aiding in the prevention of Avian Influenza and other diseases such as Campylobacter. Dr Pat Wall, UCD discussed the benefits of poultry meat for human health and how your business is crucial for food safety. There were also presentations on Carbon Footprinting and the importance of reducing this figure to further improve the efficiency of poultry meat.
