The Calf Show

The Teagasc Green Acres Calf To Beef Programme Team are hosting 'The Calf Show' series from Monday, 22nd to Thursday, 25th February at 7:30pm each evening, in conjunction with AgriLand. 

The episodes will be broadcast from AgriLand's YouTube Channel, each evening at 7:30pm.

Topics covered will include:

  • Preparing your farm and choosing calves
  • Calf feeding and maintaining hygiene
  • Herd health and vaccination
  • Preparing for weaning and turnout

Monday, 22nd February

The first episode in 'The Calf Show' series focuses on preparing your farm and choosing calves.

Series facilitator, Michael Carey, AgriLand was joined by Séan Cummins, Teagasc Green Acres Calf To Beef Programme Advisor; Peter O'Hanrahan, Programme Participant and Doreen Corridan, Munster Bovine to give an insight into how to prepare your farm for the arrival of calves, as well as the factors that you need to consider when choosing calves.

Tuesday, 23rd February

The second episode in 'The Calf Show' series focuses on calf feeding and maintaining hygiene.

 

Series facilitator, Michael Carey, AgriLand is joined by James Fitzgerald, Teagasc Green Acres Calf To Beef Programme Advisor; Irvine Allen, Programme Participant and Rebecca O’Sullivan, Volac to give an insight into the milk replacer requirements that calves need to be getting as well as best practice for hygiene and biosecurity on farms.

Wednesday, 24th February

The third espisode in 'The Calf Show' series focuses on herd health and vaccination.

 

Series facilitator, Michael Carey, AgriLand is joined by James Fitzgerald, Teagasc Green Acres Calf To Beef Programme Advisor; Martin Connolly, Programme Participant and Suzanne Naughton, MSD to give an insight into the implementation of a herd health plan and vaccination programmes for your calves this Spring.

Thursday, 25th February

The final episode in 'The Calf Show' series focuses on preparing for weaning and turnout.

Series facilitator, Michael Carey, AgriLand is joined by Alan Dillon & Séan Cummins, Teagasc Green Acres Calf To Beef Programme team; Pat Collins, Programme Participant and Dermot Meehan, Drummonds to give an insight into steps to consider when preparing to wean your calves off milk and getting them ready for turnout to grass.

Teagasc Green Acres Calf to Beef Programme

The second phase of the Teagasc Green Acres Calf to Beef Programme was launched in April 2019. 14 demonstration farmers located around the country will participate. The primary aim of the programme is to achieve a net margin of €500/ha (excluding premia).

  • Grassland Management
  • Soil Fertility
  • Financial Management
  • Farm Planning
