Mixed High Forests with mainly spruce and 20% broadleaves
Forest Type 12 (FT12)
The aim of FT12 – Mixed High Forests: mainly spruce, 20% broadleaves is to create timber production forests with Sitka spruce and at least 20% broadleaves.
Forest composition
A FT12 forest comprises an intimate mix of Sitka spruce and /or Lodgepole pine and can also include other conifers (see FT11 - Mixed High Forests with conifers and broadleaves).
Broadleaves must make up at least 20% by area and can be intimately mixed and / or planted in groups through the forest.
All species must be planted at a stocking rate of 2,500 stems / ha and at a spacing of 2 x 2 metres.

Additional support measures
- A Fencing Grant ensures that newly established forests are fully protected from browsing animals.
- An Environment Report Grant will be paid if a report from an ecologist or archaeologist is submitted.
