Mixed High Forests with mainly spruce and 20% broadleaves

Forest Type 12 (FT12)

The aim of FT12 – Mixed High Forests: mainly spruce, 20% broadleaves is to create production forests with Sitka spruce and 20% broadleaf species such as birch and alder.

Sitka spruce can produce sawlog timber in 30 to 40 years. Management can help ensure that the wood products derived from these forests are of good quality.

These new spruce forests require to include at least 20% broadleaf species along with retained areas for biodiversity enhancement.
