Equine Studies at Kildalton College
Teagasc Kildalton College and Gurteen Agricultural College offer courses in equine studies at QQI Level 5 & 6.
Facilities at Kildalton College
The equine unit consists of one indoor and two outdoor arenas, an all weather cross country track, stable blocks, tack rooms and a breeding enterprise. With approximately 50 horses available for practical work, equine students get excellent training in the care and management of horses, handling of young horses and horse riding. On a day to day basis, students are involved in the care and training of horses and the stud students develop their skills during a practical learning period with a host stud.
In our modern classrooms, students also study a range of equine subjects including health care and management, nutrition, breeding and anatomy. The theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom is reinforced and developed during field trips to local industry related businesses.
Due to travel restrictions in March 2021, Kildalton College held a virtual open day. This event can be viewed here.
